John’s Gospel does not present a sentimental view of love. This is a type of love that is shown in service and sacrifice.

We thank God for giving us a new Shepherd to lead His Church.

As Jesus has fed Peter in this meal and as Jesus feeds us in the Eucharist, so he also sends us to follow him, asking that we offer our lives in service and sacrifice.
