Dear Parishioners and Friends,
Today’s Gospel sounds puzzling to contemporary readers, but it can be made less so by considering the economic system which stands behind the parable. A steward is dismissed because he is squandering his master’s property. He is called dishonest because he is not serving the interests of the rich man, his employer. In response the steward, in an attempt to ensure favor for himself among the rich man’s debtors, brokers repayment of the rich man’s loans by foregoing the interest and fees that had been levied to line the steward’s pockets. It is this action, in which the steward puts aside his greed and takes the longer perspective in order to enhance his security, which is commended by the rich man.
The passage concludes with three morals for the listeners. The first exhorts the listener to be prudent about the use of wealth. Like the steward in the parable, those who would follow Jesus must put transitory affairs in proper perspective. Christians should handle the affairs of temporal life with an eye toward eternal life.
The second concerns trustworthiness. Those who can be trusted in small things can also be trusted in great things. If Christians handle money and other passing things responsibly, then they can also be trusted with the affairs of the Kingdom of God.
Finally, Jesus tells his listeners that no one can serve two masters simultaneously. God must be put ahead of money. (Source: Loyola Press)

Parish Morning Tea
The next parish morning tea will be held on Sunday 12th October in the Presbytery Carport after the 8am Mass. All Welcome.
The Parish Morning Tea Ministry will be taking donations during the monthly morning teas, for the rest of the year to assist the parish with Insurance, maintenance and repairs to Church and Presbytery. A donation box will be available at the morning teas for your donations. Your generosity no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated.
Notre Dame University Graduation
The parish will host Notre Dame Graduation Mass on Wednesday 24th September at 6pm.
Blessing of the Pets – Feast of St Francis Assisi – Saturday 4th October
This year the parish will have the blessing for animals, pets and their owners. This is a tradition that occurs around the feast day of St Francis of Assisi. St Francis was well known for his love of animals and nature and is the Catholic Church’s patron saint of animals and the environment. The blessing will take place on the front lawn of the Presbytery on Saturday 4th October at 9.30am. Come along bring your animal/pet and receive the blessings. All Welcome.
Anointing of the Sick Mass
Held bi-monthly on the first Tuesday during the Midday Mass. Next Anointing Mass will be held on Tuesday 7th October at Midday. All Welcome.
Invitation to RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
Are you or anyone you know interested in exploring the Catholic Church as your church home? Have you been sitting in the pew next to your Catholic spouse for years wondering what you have to do to become Catholic? Statistics show that most people respond to a personal invitation. So, this is that personal invitation and a challenge to all of you who might know someone who fits the categories above invite that person. Basilica Carpark
The Basilica grounds are open at 7am to 7.30pm Mon to Sunday. Any cars that are parked in the grounds after lockup will need to be collected the following morning. Parking in the Basilica grounds is at your own risk.
Safeguarding Requirements in the Parish
The Church Sacristy: Reminder that the Church Sacristy is only to be used by the Priests, Acolytes and Church Staff. Parishioners are not to enter the Sacristy. The toilet located in the Sacristy is for the use of the Priests only it is not a public toilet.

Jubilee Year 2025 – Pilgrims of Hope

Those unable to make a pilgrimage due to age, health, caregiving you can obtain an indulgence, under the usual conditions by reciting the Our father, making a profession of faith and offering prayers from their homes, hospitals and nursing homes while offering up their own suffering.

The Archdiocesan Safeguarding Project was started in 2016 by Archbishop Timothy Costello SDB with the aim of providing a safe and secure environment for all its members, leaders and especially children and vulnerable adults.
