The Holy Family’s escape to Egypt and the massacre that Jesus is saved from remind us of the struggles and sacrifices that are required as preparation for God’s salvation.

We must not gloss over too quickly the difficult circumstances described in today’s Gospel. The way that Joseph and Mary face these circumstances tells us much about these holy people and their faith in God.
